I have been practicing yoga since 2010, and I completed my 500 yoga teacher training through My Vinyasa Practice in Austin, TX in 2024.
Though I am trained in Vinyasa, my foundational practice is built upon the Ashtanga lineage. I use the primary and secondary series as a way to structure my sequences, but I adapt it to make it more accessible for the general public. This creates a little more variability than perhaps a traditional Ashtanga class, and I hope it provides a bit of playfulness to the practice.
Blocks, straps, blankets, and props can bring a new dimension to a pose. Though I may not always demonstrate with props, I do my best to cue them when they may be appropriate. The “best” pose isn’t what I demonstrate or the book shows. The best pose is the one where you can sit comfortably and breathe fully, so feel free to add your own variations.
Each day, each practice, is different. Just because something happened yesterday doesn’t mean that it will happen the same way today. Meet yourself with compassion and simply observe what a diligent practice has to offer.
At the end of the day, do what feels right in your body and talk to your personal physician if you have health or medical concerns. As these are recorded videos, I can’t see you to make adjustments or prevent injury. Meeting in-person with a qualified yoga teacher can add great value and stability to your practice if you are uncertain.
If you choose to practice with me, please do so kindly and safely. Proceed with caution and at your own risk. While I make suggestions, you make the choices. If something causes pain or feels like too much sensation, listen to that inner voice and gently come out of the pose. My goal for yoga isn’t to get into the perfect pretzel today. My goal is to create a sustainable, injury free practice that I can adapt over a lifetime.
Yoga is for everyone! Now let’s begin the practice of yoga…
